It’s interesting to note that probably for the first time in kerala a young and upright IAS officer, barely two years into service has been publicly threatened with direct physical violence by an Elected representative and it’s not even a discussion point in media or elsewhere. Such stuff is taken note of seriously even in places like UP/Bihar. Nobody speaks a word against it or about it and not a public word of reassurance from anyone including seniors or civil society/cultural leaders. Probably, we the democracy-loving Malayalees assume that elected representatives have the right to ride roughshod and intimidate, no matter what the rule/procedure. The Sub Collector Sriram Venkitaraman should have made a sex tape instead. Let’s discuss tapes. That’s our priority.
